April Red Hats/Dolly Meets Jake

The chef at Japanica put on an impressive show for us, with flames and squirts of sake into our mouths.  Everyone enjoyed her meal.  This is a very large restaurant; the area deceives you to think it is small, but it is very deep with many hibachis and dining tables.

Ordinarily, I set my compost bucket outside my door early Wednesday evening for Sue Contrell to collect.  Today I heard a knock at my door and Sue was collecting them earlier with her dog Jake.  Hello Dolly ran out the door and came face to face with Jake.  I was expected some hissing and an upturned back.  But no, in typical Dolly fashion, she went up to him and he just stood without a fuss.  I was so thrilled to see that encounter.

Easter Sunday 2022

 Those who gathered after mass at SRS liked my Easter egg cookies; they all disappeared.

We all converged in the Dorns' driveway at the same time, despite our having made some wrong turns.  Plenty of noshes were provided by Laura; I contributed baked garbanzo beans.

Cookie showed me how to make little baskets to use as place cards.  I also passed them around to people on my floor, plus Cookie and Lanore.

We sat down to a lovely meal, complete with a honey baked ham, which was a big sacrifice on Janice's part.  But her scalloped potatoes, salad and challah were delicious, topped off with a key lime pie for dessert.

I took back my Sunbeam Mixmaster that I had given to Annika, since she didn't seem to have use for it.  I could use it when I bake cookies, especially.

Massage

Glenn Shein was at my apartment with his equipment to give me a 90-minute massage.  It was the most thorough massage I have ever had.  Besides working on all the muscles on my back, legs and arms, he did a lot of bending and stretching.  I feel really rejuvenated.

I made reservations at The Knick for dinner.  While Peter parked the car I waited in the hotel lobby; Peter entered from the street side to the restaurant and was waiting for me at the hostess desk.  He called asking where I was.  We eventually got together.

After Peter dropped me off I got a phone call from him that he was waiting to get into SRS.  Somehow my phone unlock system didn't work, so I went down to let him him.  He noticed he did not have his wallet when he stopped for gas.  Fortunately, it dropped out of his pocket when he used the rest room at SRS.  It was cause for panic.  But it was a good thing it happened here.

Peter also bought his favorite orange/carrot drink and some seeds.  I planted tomatoes.

Janice picked me up for Titanic at the Rep.  We made it just at 2:00 p.m. until Janice dropped me off, found parking and walked to the Rep.  But it didn't start until about 2:15 p.m.   Totally enjoyable; dynamic, wonderful singing and stage production.  We both enjoyed it immensely.

Laura invited Peter and me to dinner, so Janice dropped me off at J & L's after the Rep; Peter was already there.

Jay prepared a catfish dish on toast, topped with kale with chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  We had a lovely visit after a wonderful day.
