Saturday, October 14, 2023I had a perm at 10:30 a.m., and thought I would not be able to attend the event since it started at 1:00 p.m. instead of 5:00 like in previous years. Peter was surprised when I realized the time change, otherwise we would have been really on the carpet, especially when we missed the last meeting thinking it was still on the first Sunday instead of the second.
Fortunately, my perm was finished in plenty of time to drive to the Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay, arriving just as Peter was unloading the flag and coats of arms. Eileen did a beautiful job gathering many display items pertaining to Vienna. Peter and I sat up front with board members. Caterers furnished pastries and coffee/water, but there was no wine this year. This was a more expensive event than in the past: the cost of the facility and catering.
A trio performed before the program, followed by performers from Chicago entertaining us with music of Johann Strauss II, and Italian dancers performed music written during Strauss' Italian period.
Peter put a lot of effort getting this board framed with coats of arms of Austrian provinces made by Anita's husband.I shopped at a Pick 'n Save on Good Hope Road, but they did not have any cauliflower for the dish I planned to make for Sunday's pot luck. P & S on Lyon Street had all of my ingredients.
I finished my rice from last night's dinner at Char'd with some cut up turkey.
