Anita invited Peter and me to her house for a Labor Day gathering, along with Eileen and her son Dave, a woman called SAM (her maiden name initials) plus Anita's companion. We got there just a few minutes before noon with our pot of mums. It was a perfect day to sit outdoors on her patio. Anita served potato salad, Eileen's fruit salad and baked beans, barbecued ribs and sour kraut. We could eat outdoors; however, the yellow jackets were pesky. Then Eileen served a huge portion of strawberry pie.
The conversation turned controversial about schools, what is taught and racial issues. It could have gotten nasty with Anita's strong opinion. But I tried to agree with her as much as I could.
All in all, it was a very pleasant afternoon.
We drove back avoiding the freeway until Peter suggested paying Rudy a visit. He served us coffee as we sat by his koi pond. It was very relaxing.
Laura called while I was there and she shared with me why Claude didn't come to her cookout. He wrote an email saying that if brats and hamburgers were being served to count him out. He was cutting back on beef to preserve the planet. She was very offended and doesn't plan on inviting him again. She plans on serving beef tenderloin at Christmas. I told her that she does not have to announce what she is planning to serve beforehand. Whatever is on the table can be eaten or passed.
