German Weekend

Saturday, August 10, 2024/Peter's 81st Birthday

Peter and I got to Carl Schurz Park about 2:00 p.m. on a sunny, cool day; I was comfortable with my fleece hoodie.  People were spread out all over this very lovely expanse.  We settled for a table in the covered structure, drinking a beer and listening to the music.  Claude joined us about 4:00 p.m.  We had sausage and a dessert that Peter managed to split and enjoy at home.

Sunday, August 11

Instead of our usual Austrian American meeting at the Germanfest Office, we were invited by Liederkranz to their picnic at the Rotary Park in Menomonee Falls.  We were able to conduct a very brief meeting, mostly about the fall hike.  We filled a table with our members; some members sat with other groups.  The chorus entertained us with a few songs.

Food was plentiful with large portions of chicken.  I managed to get just one wing that wasn't attached to bigger piece of meat.  There were brats with a lot of side dishes and desserts.

A couple of men mixed grasshoppers and brandy Alexanders as an added treat.
